Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (MERIT)

Based in the Netherlands and belonging to the United Nations University and Maastricht University, UNU-MERIT is one of the leading innovation institutes in the world. The number of PhD fellows and Master students is approximately 100 each.

In view of the rising inequality between countries one pillar of UNU-MERIT’s mission is to conduct research which aims at identifying possibilities to reduce the gap between developing countries and industrialized nations. Further, its mission comprises the analysis of knowledge flows and to assess their impact.  Finally, a key aspect of UNU-MERIT’s mission is to strengthen governance mechanisms in organizations.
